Hovemere Facilities

Hovemere moved to its new facilities in Tonbridge, Kent in late 2008. These have been purpose-built to accommodate two dark rooms and assembly and test facilities. A clean room facility is planned in the near future. Hovemere offers both electronic and optical instrument design capabilities and possesses a comprehensive range equipment to test and characterise optical systems.

In addition Hovemere has a number of working Lidar systems available:

  • Hovemere PkC Lidar facility
    An established, ground-based Wind Lidar facility
  • RACHEL
    A mobile Lidar system for wind and pollution measurement. RACHEL systems are also available for sale
  • MDWL system
    A Mobile Doppler Wind Lidar system originally developed by Hovemere for the ESA VALID campaign. This is a self-contained mobile Lidar and laboratory
  • Aircraft-Mounted Lidar for hazard detection
    Hovemere has participated in European funded projects using Lidar for detection of clear- air turbulence, wake vortex and windshear hazards.
    • FLYSAFE Flight Test Lidar
      A Lidar system developed within the EU-funded project FLYSAFE for on- board turbulence detection for aircraft
    • DELICAT
      A medium-range clear air turbulence sensor for aircraft currently being developed within the EU-funded project DELICAT
